People have always loved Auralia’s clean and elegant interface, designed to keep students focused on the essential ear training task. Set tasks and assignments, and even run exams with high quality content that your students will love.Īssessing Work > Easy to use for all ages Sophisticated tracking allows you to easily monitor and assess your students. The integrated lessons and courses provide ideal preparation for each topic. Although I don’t use these apps just yet, I am trying to incorporate a lot more rhythms and aural learning, because I think these skills are just as important as any other skills that are often overlooked in a private studio setting. The most comprehensive ear training Huge depth of contentĮach of the 54 topics has carefully graded levels, allowing you to easily use Auralia with beginner through advanced students. I’ve also come to value these skills a lot more, and I’m trying to be more proactive about this in private lessons too. It’s also made me re-evaluate my own teaching practices as well. Consistency is also key – by setting up work for students to do using these apps, they are practising these skills consistently, which over time will improve their listening and theory. You can set homework using these two apps for both theory and aural – I really like that you get instant feedback, instead of having to wait days to find out if you resolved your cadences properly. I can see how online learning apps like these can be really valuable. I really like the idea of using these apps to aid in this area, because there’s only so much class time, and ideally, you want activities to be as practical as humanly possible in this time. To be honest, I haven’t really given might thought to using any kind of programs to teach aural skills and music theory until now, especially in the online-oriented world that we are learning in. Personally, I learnt music theory outside of school, and I had a more Lucy Green approach to ear training until I got to uni, where 4 semesters of aural perception changed that. It’s a similar story for Musition, except it’s catered towards the more theory stuff, so identifying the chord visually rather than aurally. The app is a little intimidating with all it’s functionality, but I guess once you get used to it it’s great. It’s easy to navigate, you can replay the audio and you get instant feedback if you had the right answer or not. And of course, you can also make your own syllabus for your classes as well! It’s also accessible in browsers, so students can also access on different devices, but the management system is only available on a computer (at least, for now).ĭoing the actual exercises is pretty addicting, not gonna lie – I tried both the Jazz chord, and Jazz progressions courses. There’s so many syllabi, including ones for rhythm dictation, cadence identification, Jazz chords and theory and so much more! I like how there’s also already a built in thing for existing courses such as the Trinity Aural course.
