As I worked a couple of diagrams I got more used to Draw, but things like this kept happening. To get DropCopy working on your computer is easy. The cursor has to be positioned very carefully to get the line. In the same manner it seems difficult to grab a line to select it. The tool just does not tolerate any hesitation. The dropzone is always obscured by other windows how can I use DropCopy without moving windows all the time I dragged a file to the icon and nothing happened. It is more than a quarter of the time that I am trying to drag an object and it disappears as I start to drag it. An example with Draw is the way the change between the two drag modes happens so quickly. I think it is a combination of the frustration of continuing to make mistakes because of the issues and the frustration of knowing that the user interface could be fixed. And drag and drop copy from the SMB share TestSubject1 and TestSubject2 to a client. I tend to be pretty sensitive to poor user interfaces. Windows does starts transfers slowly and increases speed during long. At least, that's my take on it.Īcknak wrote:My distinct impression is that very few professional graphic artists use Draw, but that's just my guess. The more demanding your project or your production schedule is, the less suitable OOo becomes. For them, OOo is wonderful and more than adequate. The vast majority of people only need a small fraction of OOo's capabilities. Sure, it takes an extra step, but it's hardly a big deal. I've just learned to do cut/paste when I need a copy. OTOH, if you just need a few diagrams for a presentation, or even a dozen or two for a paper or a book, it's hardly unreasonable to adapt your work habits to avoid the problem. My distinct impression is that very few professional graphic artists use Draw, but that's just my guess. The more you have to use a tool with a poor interface, the bigger problem the interface becomes. OOo in general, and Draw/Impress in particular, is just loaded with little design glitches like this. If you make your living doing even moderately-complex illustrations (and I don't I'm really just guessing here), then the kind of problem that you brought up becomes more important: every extra click and awkward feature costs you time and mental energy, and it adds up. It might be possible to use Draw, but impractical, or you won't get a professional result because of certain quirks in Draw's design. On a more practical level, Draw is not really very suitable for any kind of drafting/cad-type work, or color graphics for printed media. Easily and quickly send files and folders to multiple destinations across your network by simply dragging files onto recipients in a popup window. Here's an example of something that "professional" tools can do that Draw could never, ever do. I'd say that's exactly the kind of work that Draw is good for, and with a little persistence, you can produce results that I would call "professional quality". Is that really what the OO tools are intended for, "non-professional" work? I am drawing block diagrams for documents I create.the idea that they are specifically not for "professional-quality" work seems a bit counter to the idea of having the tools in the first place.
